Address Validation

Teapplix ActionShip can validate shipping addresses before you print labels. Address validation catches errors such as incorrect ZIP codes, misspelled cities, and wrong residential/business flags. This helps prevent delivery failures, returned packages, and carrier surcharges.

Select the orders you wish to validate on the Open Orders page. Click the ”…” menu to the right of the “Ship” button and choose Verify Address.

After validation completes, ActionShip shows you a summary of any suggested changes. You have several options:

  • Accept all suggested changes in bulk

  • Reject all suggested changes in bulk

  • Move orders with address issues to a separate queue for further review

  • Go back to the Open Orders page and accept or reject each change individually

ActionShip uses different validation engines depending on the carrier selected on each order:

USPS and Other Carriers

For USPS-based shipping methods (Endicia, EasyPost, Pitney Bowes, etc.) and most other carriers, ActionShip uses USPS address validation. This is the default engine and covers all US domestic addresses. It checks street address, city, state, and ZIP code accuracy, and determines whether the address is residential or business.

UPS

For UPS shipping methods, ActionShip uses UPS Address Validation (XAV). UPS validates addresses in the US and 30+ other countries. UPS validation also determines residential vs. business status, which affects whether UPS charges a residential surcharge.

FedEx

For FedEx shipping methods, ActionShip can use either FedEx Address Validation or USPS address validation. You configure this on Integrations => Carriers => FedEx. FedEx uses separate services “Ground” vs. “Home Delivery” depending on residential status, so accurate detection matters. See FedEx Address Validation Setup for details.

UniUni

For UniUni shipping methods, ActionShip uses UniUni’s own address validation API. This checks whether the destination address is serviceable by UniUni and determines residential vs. business status.

There are two ways address validation runs:

  • Manual (Bulk) — You select orders and run “Verify Address” from the menu. This is recommended before printing a large batch of labels.

  • Automatic — Some carriers (FedEx, UPS) perform address validation automatically during rate quote or label generation. ActionShip will prompt you if the carrier suggests corrections.

For international (non-US) destinations, ActionShip performs basic validation such as checking for Canadian provinces on orders marked as US. Full carrier-level validation is available for UPS and FedEx in their supported countries.

  • Run address validation before printing labels in bulk. Fixing addresses after labels are printed requires canceling and reprinting.

  • Pay attention to the residential vs. business flag. UPS and FedEx charge differently for residential deliveries, and an incorrect flag can result in surcharges.

  • If you use the Scan & Print workflow, run address validation first and correct any issues before scanning.
